5 Essential Oils For Headaches

Nothing is as distressing as a throbbing ache in your forehead. It gravely disrupts a person’s ability to function properly. Of all the factors that result in headaches, stress is the leading cause of most of the headaches people suffer from. 1. Eucalyptus Essential Oil

Eucalyptus oil is derived from the leaves of Eucalyptus tree. The oil relieves headaches arising from stress and blocked sinuses by improving blood circulation and clearing the nasal passages. You can benifit from the aroma of this oil by adding a few drops into a bowl of hot water and inhaling its vapors or by diluting two drops of eucalyptus oil with a teaspoon of grape seed oil and apply it over your temples and forehead.[1]

2. Spearmint Essential Oil

Spearmint oil has a slightly lesser menthol content which accounts for its milder aroma compared to peppermint oil. Owing to this reason, this oil is comparatively safer to use on children than other essential oils and is a great alternative for people who find the fragrance of peppermint oil too strong. It has notable significance in reducing the severity of headaches caused by tension and poor blood circulation. To reap its benifits, mix two drops of spearmint essential oil with a teaspoon of almond oil and dab on your temples, forehead and back of your neck.[2]

3. Ginger Essential Oil

Ginger essential oil is a great option for those suffering from the most debilitating forms of headaches. It has a concentrated pungent aroma which instantly provides relief from migraines and cluster headaches.[3] This oil is helpful in eliminating nausea that often accompanies a headache and uplifts the mood by relaxing the nerves. In order to harness its pain relieving powers, soak a cottonball with two to three drops of ginger essential oil and wrap it in a piece of cloth and inhale it to get rid of headache. Another way to use this oil is by mixing two dops of this oil with a tablespoon of coconut oil and dab the mixture on the back of your neck and forehead.

4. Black Pepper Essential Oil

Oil made from black pepper has a host of benifits for alleviating headaches and tension. A substance called piperine prevails in high amounts in black pepper and gives the pepper seeds a spicy hint. This compound is found to be highly effective in banishing headaches caused by stress and migraines by easing muscles and nerves and stimulating blood circulation.[4] This oil is particularly beneficial for localized headaches. It also happens to be a great alternative for people who are sensitive to fruity and flowery oil fragrances. To use this oil put two drops of black pepper oil in your hankerchief and sniff it to ease headache and nausea that accompanies it.

5. Lemon Essential Oil

Lemon oil has a pleasing citrussy aroma that instantly improves the mood and lifts away stress. It is extensively used in a number of pain management techniques and is of great help in ebbing away headaches. To recieve its benefits mix two to three drops of the oil with a teaspoon of almond oil and apply on your forehead, temples, neck and shoulders.[5] Alternatively, you can also put a few drops of lemon oil on your hankerchief and sniff it to get instant relief from headache. Drinking a glass of water mixed with a drop of lemon oil soothes headache that is caused due to dehydration.
